For travelers seeking the Himalaya trekking experience but who have limited time, this trek offers magnificent views of the highest mountains in the Himalaya without hiking to extreme altitudes. Spend your days trekking in the shade of awe-inspiring peaks and immerse yourself in Nepalese culture with overnights in tea-houses and two days of touring the Kathmandu Valley.

Tea House Lodge Trek
All accommodations during the trek are in family-run tea house lodges, which helps support the local economy and gives you an insight into the Himalaya culture. Morning and evening meals will be at these lodge and you'll have choices of both western and local dishes.

Day 1:  Arrive in Kathmandu (4,400 ft.)
Arrive at the Kathmandu airport where you'll be welcomed by our representative and transferred to your hotel. Overnight in Kathmandu.
Day 2:  Kathmandu (4,400 ft.)
After breakfast, begin a full day private tour of Kathmandu with your guide. Visit the Bodhnath temple, the largest Buddhist stupa in Nepal, and one of the several monasteries neighboring the stupa. After this Buddhist experience, visit Pashupatinath, the holiest of temples for the Hindus in hopes of witnessing a Hindu cremation along the banks of the Bagmati River. Then head to the Patan Durbar Square to take in ancient Nepalese architecture and enjoy lunch at the museum garden.  After lunch visit the Patan museum to view ancient Nepalese art. Overnight in Kathmandu. (Breakfast, Lunch)
Day 3:  Kathmandu to Phakding (8,700 ft.)  

Take a short, but unforgettable flight in the early morning to Lukla with views of Gauri-Shankar and Melungtse among other peaks. Upon arrival, meet your sirdar and the rest of the crew. Enjoy lunch, while your crew loads your luggage on the animals or gets it ready for your team of porters. In the afternoon, take a three hour trek along the Dudh Kosi River to the village of Phakding. Overnight at Lodge. (All meals)

Day 4:  Phakding to Namche (11,270 ft.)  

Today you will enter the Sagarmatha National Park. After lunch, cross the Dudh Koshi River and then brace for your first challenge: the slog up the steep switchbacks to Namache bazaar. Depending on the weather, you will get your first view of Mt. Everest.  Total trekking time is about 5 hours. Overnight in Namche. (All meals)
Day 5:  Namche Bazaar (11,270 ft.)  
Today is an acclimatization day. Choose to rest, hike up to the National Park museum for views of Everest and Amadablam, or take a day hike towards Thame. Overnight in Namche. (All meals)
Day 6:  Namche to Tengboche (12,900 ft.)  
After breakfast, get on the trail and descend to the Dudh Koshi River.  Continue on an ascent through conifer and Rhododendron forests to Tengboche. The Tengboche Monastery is situated on a ridge and is surrounded by mountains including Thamserku, Kangtenga and Ama Dablam. Total trekking time is about 3-4 hours. Overnight in Tengboche. (All meals)
Day 7:  Tengboche to Khumjung (11,525 ft.)  
Retrace the trail to Phunkitenga. Divert to Khumjung and spend the afternoon visiting the famous Hillary School and having a snack at the world's highest bakery. Trekking time is about 5-6 hours. Overnight in Khumjung. (All meals)
Day 8:  Khumjung to Monjo (9,300 ft.)  
After breakfast, start your long 5 hour descent to Monjo. Overnight in Monjo. (All meals)
Day 9:  Monjo to Lukla (9,200 ft.)  
Get back on the trail trekking five hours into Lukla. Overnight in Lukla. (All meals)
Day 10:  Lukla to Kathmandu (4,400 ft.)  
Today fly to Kathmandu. The rest of day is free for unpacking, doing laundry, writing emails, or souvenir shopping. In the evening enjoy dinner at a Nepali home. Overnight in Kathmandu. (Breakfast, Dinner)
Day 11:  Kathmandu (4,400 ft.)  
After breakfast, enjoy a full day of sightseeing. First visit Swayambunath, the monkey temple. Then visit the ancient city of Bhaktapur with its 55-window palace and the famous five-storey temple. Enjoy lunch at the square overlooking the temple. In the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner with performance by Nepali dancers. Overnight in Kathmandu. (All meals)

Day 12:  Departure
Transfer to the airport for your flight home. (Breakfast)

  • Personal trekking gear such as a sleeping bag, trekking poles and clothing

Please call us toll free at 1-877-362-2793 and let us know that you are interested in this tour. To prepare a proposal, we'll ask questions about how many people are traveling, your preferred travel dates, standard and types of accommodation, and any special interests that we may be able to accommodate.

Once we have finalized a customized price quote for you, your agent will inform you a per-person non-refundable deposit to initiate reservations (typically 20% of tour cost). Final payment is due 75 days prior to departure.

If your reservation is made less than 75 days prior to departure, the non-refundable deposit will allow us to initiate reservations. Full payment will be due immediately upon confirmation of all hotels and transportation services. If the services quoted cannot be confirmed, alternate accommodation or transportation will be arranged and the price will be adjusted accordingly.

Payments can be made by personal check, bank wire transfer, or credit card. Upon receipt of your deposit, we will initiate your reservations and send you a statement showing your payment. Approximately 2 weeks prior to your departure, we will send you a final confirmation containing your itinerary and detailed information on the logistics of your trip.

Cancellation/Refund Policies

- Cancel more than 60 days prior to departure - forfeit your deposit.
- Cancel between 30 and 60 days prior to departure - forfeit 50% of the tour cost.
- Cancel less than 30 days prior to departure - NO REFUND of tour cost.
- Cancellations must be made in writing and sent via mail, fax, or email to Red Lantern Journeys.
- Refunds will be processed within 30 days of receipt of your written request.
- No refunds are available for unused services or tours during your trip.
