Day 1: Arrive Bangkok
Upon arrival, you will be welcomed at the airport and transferred to your hotel.
Day 2: Bangkok
After breakfast, you will take a local tuk-tuk (motorized rickshaw) to explore the famous Grand Palace and temples including Wat Phra Kaew which houses the revered Emerald Buddha and Wat Po, the reclining Buddha. In centuries gone by Bangkok was often referred to as the "Venice of the East" with a vast network of klongs (canals) through the city. Later this afternoon, your boat trip will provide an insight into the lives of people who live along the klongs which seems a world away from the chaotic streets of Bangkok. Along the cruise, visit Wat Koh, a temple comprises of several wooden structures. Overnight in Bangkok. (Breakfast)

Day 3: Bangkok
After breakfast, visit the charming Jim Thompson House, home of James H.W. Thompson, a self-made American entrepreneur who was the founder of the world renowned Jim Thompson Thai Silk. Since his disappearance in 1967, little has changed in his traditional Thai home.

After, hop on Bangkok’s oldest form of public transportation. Join the local people and take a fast riverboat towards Old Bangkok . After disembarking, take a short coffee break at a local shop with a great view of The Golden Mount, known locally as Wat Saket. Walk through the temple grounds, have a look at a firework shop before heading the area known as the Monk's Bowl Village. Continue on foot towards Chinatown and explore the fascinating narrow alleys crammed with masses of goods from dried seafood to local street snacks. Overnight in Bangkok. (Breakfast)

Day 4: Fly to Mandalay
After breakfast, transfer to Bangkok Suvarnnabhumi Airport for a flight to Mandalay. Upon arrival, you will be welcomed and transferred to your hotel.

Later in the afternoon, visit Mahagandayon monastery complex with thousands of monks. Then head over to the famed U-Bein Bridge, a 158 year old and the longest teak wood bridge in the world, for beautiful sunset views. Overnight in Mandalay. (Breakfast)

Day 5: Mandalay
This morning, depart to the forgotten ancient capital of Ava the 14 century capital located across Myit Nge River. Explore by traditional horse cart around unique monasteries and monuments, including the 88 foot high watchtower, Bargaya teak monastery (famous for its 267 teak pillars), the remains of the royal palace and fort.

Later in the afternoon, take a boat excursion to Mingun village on the banks of the Ayarwaddy River. Visit the Mingun Pagoda with its big crack caused by an earthquake and the world’s largest ringing bronze bell. Return to Mandalay on a one-hour boat ride while drinks and snacks are being served.

Day 6: Fly to Bagan
After breakfast, transfer to airport for a short flight Bagan. Upon arrival you will be welcomed and transferred to your hotel. Today you will spend the day exploring the ancient temples that Bagan is well-known for including the Ananda, Dhammayangyi, Sulamani, and Thatbyinnyu. Visit a small scale lacquer workshop and see how some of the world’s finest lacquerware is made. Early evening, take a horse cart ride to Pyathagyi Pagoda for sunset with some refreshing drinks served. Feel free to stop whenever you see a temple you like! Overnight in Bagan. (Breakfast)

Day 7: Day trip to Pakokku
Today you will explore an interesting riverside town of Pakokku located across the Ayeyarwady River, about 40km and one hour’s drive from Bagan. Visit the Pakokku market and local cottage industries such as slipper making and cheroot making workshops. You will also try out some local daily life activities such as learning how to wear a longyi or walking with a basket balanced on your head as locals do. After lunch at local restaurant, visit one of the Pagoda sites to observe an excellent and artistic arch-pediment which was made of five blocks of teak and inscribed with nine Buddhist stories. From here, see an ancient Pagoda built in the 3rd Century B.C and enjoy great views of the Ayeyarwady River. Return back to Bagan and have some free time to relax at your resort or explore more temples with your guide. Overnight in Bagan. (Breakfast, Lunch)

Day 8: Fly to Heho – Inle Lake
Transfer to airport this morning for a short flight to Heho. Upon arrival, you will be welcomed by your guide and drive about 45minutes to Inle Lake. On the lake, the Intha people have been living for many centuries in villages built entirely on stilts over the lake. Today you will travel by private motorboat around the lake to visit the floating gardens, see the famous leg rowers. Stop by a local cheroot factory where Burmese cigars are made, floating tomato gardens and the famous Nga Phe Chaung Monastery. After, continue cruising by boat to your hotel on the Lake. Overnight in Inle Lake. (Breakfast)
Day 9: Inle Lake
This morning, cruise by local motorboat to visit the 5-day rotating market to observe a colorful market full with Shan and Pa O tribes living nearby. Then continue to pass a small creek in the western part of the lake to Indein village. Visit a complex of about 1,000 stupas of varying sizes built between the 17th and 18th centuries.

Then embark on a short trek to Nay Daw village (3 miles, about 1 hour) and visit the Pa O tribal residents. Visit the local farmlands and a bamboo forest. Trek about a mile (about 30min) back to Indein village, enjoy very scenic countryside views along the way. From here, transfer back to your hotel by motorboat. Rest of the afternoon is free for you to relax at your resort and enjoy lake views from your room. Overnight in Inle Lake. (Breakfast)

Day 10: Fly to Yangon
This morning, drive about 45min to Heho Airport and take a flight to Yangon. Upon arrival, you will be welcomed and transferred to your hotel.

Later today, explore colonial downtown to observe its fabulous mix of architecture and harbor area on foot. Starting first at the Sule Pagoda, flanked by a Muslim Mosque and a church on the other end. You will also see very charming British colonial era architecture around this area. Head over to the historic Strand Hotel where you will take a break with a local beer at the famous bar once frequented by famous writers like Somerset Maugham and Rudyard Kiping. Overnight in Yangon. (Breakfast)

Day 11: Yangon
This morning, visit the world famous Shwedagon Pagoda, the most sacred temple in Myanmar and believed to be at least 2,500 years old.  Then proceed to a lively local market in Insein Township at the north of Yangon where vendors gather daily to sell a wide range of items, both food and dry goods. Enjoy exploring the market and meeting the friendly locals before returning to Yangon by a circular train. Arrive right behind the Bogyoke Aung San market where you can do last minute shopping on your last day. Rest of the day is free for you to explore the city on your own. Overnight in Yangon. (Breakfast)

Day 12: Depart Yangon
Transfer to the airport for your departing flight. (Breakfast)

Please call us toll free at 1-877-362-2793 and let us know that you are interested in this tour. To prepare a proposal, we'll ask questions about how many people are traveling, your preferred travel dates, standard and types of accommodation, and any special interests that we may be able to accommodate.

Once we have finalized a customized price quote for you, your agent will inform you a per-person non-refundable deposit to initiate reservations (typically 20% of tour cost). Final payment is due 75 days prior to departure.

If your reservation is made less than 75 days prior to departure, the non-refundable deposit will allow us to initiate reservations. Full payment will be due immediately upon confirmation of all hotels and transportation services. If the services quoted cannot be confirmed, alternate accommodation or transportation will be arranged and the price will be adjusted accordingly.

Payments can be made by personal check, bank wire transfer, or credit card. Upon receipt of your deposit, we will initiate your reservations and send you a statement showing your payment. Approximately 2 weeks prior to your departure, we will send you a final confirmation containing your itinerary and detailed information on the logistics of your trip.

Cancellation/Refund Policies

- Cancel more than 60 days prior to departure - forfeit your deposit.
- Cancel between 30 and 60 days prior to departure - forfeit 50% of the tour cost.
- Cancel less than 30 days prior to departure - NO REFUND of tour cost.
- Cancellations must be made in writing and sent via mail, fax, or email to Red Lantern Journeys.
- Refunds will be processed within 30 days of receipt of your written request.
- No refunds are available for unused services or tours during your trip.
